Sam stated that his participation is part of SASCOC’s commitment to promote fair play and healthy living. He says: “This is my first half marathon and the Two Oceans half-marathon has been a goal of mine for sometime. I have a busy traveling schedule and fit my training in between this and when I am at home in Joburg. I try to complete about 15km to 25km a week. I’ve noticed an overall improvement in my health.”

Sam will be running for the Institute’s proactive education campaign ‘I Play Fair – Say No! To Doping’, which aims to establish a culture of fair play in sport. Commenting on his participation in the I Play Fair team, Sam explains: “Anti-doping is a part of the spirit of sport which has an important value. SASCOC is in partnership with SAIDS and therefore my participation is intended to show that we’re prepared to go beyond the boardroom to the playing fields to instill these values of fair play and anti-doping in sport.” Sam went on to say:  “Running for Team I Play Fair is also about getting those that govern sport out of their boardrooms so that we can be empathetic and gain an understanding of the discipline it takes and the rigorous training regimes of our athletes. It gives us a greater understanding in preparing our athletes for competitions such as the Olympics.” Khalid Galant, SAIDS CEO, says: “We’re honoured by Mr. Sam’s commitment to run for our team as this is a great example of sports leadership embodying the spirit of sport to encompass wellness and fitness. I am hoping Mr Sam’s participation will motivate other sports executives to join our team and to embark on mission of healthier living through sport.” Team I Play Fair has recently partnered with sports apparel brands Mizuno and SKINS for the team of 10 runners in the Team I Play Fair who will be running in the 45th Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon, which has been aptly named, the “world’s most beautiful marathon”. Galant explains: “SKINS is a brand with shared values that believes athletes should handle themselves with honesty and integrity at all times. Mizuno is a brand that pays homage to providing tools to take incredible strides forward because they believe in the power of sport to inspire and transform.”
