The SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) announced that Port Elizabeth triathlete Mariette Hattingh is banned from all official competitions for two years from 31st March 2014 after being found guilty for having the banned substances clenbuterol and phentermine in her system after the Ironman SA 70.3 event in East London, January 2014. Clenbuterol is an anabolic agent and phentermine a stimulant on the World Anti-Doping Code 2014 prohibited list of substances and methods in sport. Hattingh has already exercised her right to appeal the sanction The delay in handing down a sanction was due to the athlete trying to source the correct batch of supplements for analysis to determine the source of the contamination.
