I Play Fair takes to the road for Sanlam Cape Town Marathon
Cape Town, 15 September 2014 – The SA Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) with Sport Science Institute SA (SSISA) have partnered to take to the roads in an effort to promote corporate wellness in sport by entering ‘I Play Fair – Say No! To Doping’ relay and celebrity teams into this year’s Sanlam Cape Town Marathon taking place on 20th and 21st September 2014.
The Institute’s sport participation campaign ‘I Play Fair – Say No! To Doping’ aims to generate awareness around fair play, drugs in sport and wellness. The Institute has since 2012 entered various celebrity teams into sports events to raise awareness for its cause and to encourage general sports participation through most notably the Minister of Sport, Mr. Fikile Mbalula, and Western Cape Premiere Helen Zille who cycled and completed the 2012 Argus Cycle Tour.
Khalid Galant, SAIDS CEO explains: “SAIDS offices are based at the Sports Science Institute of SA. Both entities have strong organizational wellness programs. We therefore challenged the SSISA staff to compete against SAIDS as part of our mutual wellness values while advocating the principles of fair play and drug-free sport.”
SAIDS and SSISA staff will be competing in 3 teams of 5 each for the Peace Relay running a distance of 4.2km on Saturday 21st September with SAIDS General Manager, Fahmy Galant running the 11KM Peace Trail Run.
SABC 2’s new Indian Lifestyle Magazine show Mela, will have co-presenter Mishal Mookrey leading the team of staff members for the 10km Peace Run on Sunday 21st September.
“I’m doing the Cape Town Marathon 10KM as part of a resolution to maintain a healthy-living lifestyle and to campaign for sport, free of drugs,” enthuses Mishal.
The Institute is encouraging all South African sportsmen and women, coaches and fans to take the ‘I Play Fair – Say NO! To Doping’ pledge by visiting www.drugfreesport.org.za, the mobi-site: m.drugfreesport.org.za, on the Facebook Page (iplayfairZA) or via Twitter (@iplayfairZA).
