Cape Town, – Martinique Potgieter, who finished ninth in the women’s category of the 2014 Comrades Marathon, has pleaded guilty to a doping offence and accepted a two year ban. Proceedings were delayed in 2014 after the athlete requested more time to determine the sources of her positive dope test.

The diuretic Furosemide and the stimulant Phentermine were found in her urine sample taken on the 1st of June 2014 after the Comrades Marathon. Potgieter will be banned from competing in any organised sport until and including the 31st of May 2016, and will forfeit her ninth position attained as well as her medals and prize money at the event that she was tested at.
